about

I was trying to write a fairy tale here. It’s about a delusional man who can’t accept that his love has actually just left him, so he makes up this elaborate story about how his love flew away, but she comes back at night to sleep beside him. But you’re smart enough to figure that out yourself. I actually consulted my mom a bit about the lyrics, but I don’t think she cared enough to actually make any suggestions. That horrible string solo and section was made by taking some real string recordings I had for an old song and using a limited version of a vocal tuning plugin to force them to do what I wanted. It’s sick, but I like it.

lyrics

Since she grew wings
and twined up her tired feet,
I have been waiting
with my hands on the string.

Back porch living
in that old house on Oak St.
When she told me,
it took months to believe.

Now when I sleep,
she comes and sleeps next to me.
Those golden wings.
Her feathers stuck in the leaves.

It's nothing.
It doesn't seem worth noting.
My hands are freezing,
but I don't feel a thing.

She'll come to sleep.
They don't believe, but I've seen.

I was waiting;
up early in the morning,
when it came falling
through the branches of the tree.

In the evening,
when the old trees stops their breathing.
I feel her swaying on.

She'll come to me,
lay down her wings and fall asleep.
down by the leaves
feet wrapped in sheets, breathing deep.
