I wrote this song a while ago, originally with the hope of it being a song for my band YEARS. Not much happened there, so I reclaimed it. I think there are some cool things sonically happening here. I tracked the vocals with a close mic and one out in the room and switched between them to give the vocal track different textures (and some natural reverb). Lyrically, it’s about those people who disappear from your lives physically, but stick around forever in your mind, whether you want them to or not. And it was so fun to sing Boo in earnest
lyrics
When my ghost goes haunting, though I asked him naught,
he's gonna come to spook you, so keep your bedroom locked.
I'll be soundly sleeping under dirt and stone when he's gone and left me.
I'll be dust and bone.
Why not take another?
Jump and try your shot,
bounce it off the backboard baby!
If I could hear you coming,
I'd unbolt my lock,
but you bounce around.
When your body's empty
after your mind has left,
they'll find your ghost there sleeping
and catching up on rest.
Why not take another?
Give it one last shot.
I bounced it off the basket, baby!
I could see your running off my back porch, down the block,
so I bounce around.
I hear you in the halls.
You say, "Boo!"
I hear you in the halls, but I can't find you.
